About Me

My Origin Story

I've loved eating out for as long as I can remember.  My life before blogging was about eating out most nights of the week and very little home cooking.  I used to be a creature of habit, going to the same restaurants regularly, rarely trying something new, but when "road-testing" a new spot and finding a new love, I'd find a way to add it to my 'rotation'.

It was just such a new restaurant that became one of my all time favourites!

I started this blog after that favourite restaurant closed down, a place that had come to feel like a second home (well, it practically was my kitchen!).  I would always tell my friends, family and anyone that would listen to get along and check it out.  In the end, it just wasn't enough, my voice wasn't loud enough!

The plan for my blog, FoodMeUpScotty, is to tell as many people as possible about the great restaurants and eating spots that Brisbane has to offer.

It's important to know that I don't consider myself a restaurant critic and I don't score restaurants, I'm simply writing about my experiences, most of which are good, some of which are not.

After a number of years eating my way around Brisbane, I took up a work opportunity in Hong Kong.

What a hardship!  I now get to eat my way around a new city, with more restaurants than I could possibly eat at in a lifetime - 79,000 and counting!

My Life as a Food Blogger

I now find it really hard to walk past a good restaurant, which means I have a real problem!  I live in  Hong Kong, within easy walking distance of the best restaurants the world - many with Michelin Stars!

I try to get out to as many restaurants as possible, which is a lot of fun, so I can write about them and share my dining experiences with you.  I'm not on a crusade but I am trying to share as many of my experiences as possible in the short time we've got.

If you follow me on Instagram of Facebook, you'll notice that I still have my old habit of having a few restaurants on 'Rotation' and I try to get out to support them as often as possible.  I really encourage you to get out and support your local dining scene, I know the chefs really appreciate it!

Oh, I know I'm not the greatest photographer in the world, but I am enthusiastic about getting better, my NX300 sure is helping so I've upgraded to a Sony Alpha 7ii and just might get some lessons :)

Fun Stuff

Every now and then I do a little consulting with Restaurants and Chefs on menu ideas and concepts, which is a lot of fun.  If you've got a restaurant and would like to find out more, just let me know.

I'd love to hear from you so drop me a line on hellofoodmeupscotty@gmail.com :)

  3. Hi Anthony,
Really love what you are doing at the moment. Great for keeping small business alive. I am also in the business of supporting small business in the hospitality area at the moment. Someone needs to try and slow down these multinationals that are unfortunately doing so well. Was wondering if you would be able to help me mate???
    Cheers
